The Life Development Center
Employee Support Program
I've never seen a company that was able to satisfy its customers which did not also satisfy its employees. Your employees will treat your customers no better than you treat your employees.
—Larry Bossidy, CEO, AlliedSignal, Inc.
The Life Development Center is a behavioral science center committed to the idea that people can take planned, positive steps to become more successful and satisfied in managing their personal resources and their relationships. Programs are not designed for the "mentally ill," but for normal persons who have habits, attitudes, fears, and other reaction patterns that interfere with their abilities to adjust to themselves, to their spouses and children, to friends, or to a career or role in society.
The Center approach assumes that various forms of social maladjustment are not matters of mental illness, but occur because the individual has learned an incorrect view of himself, and so manages himself inadequately. He unknowingly reacts to others in ways that bring his relationships to an unsatisfactory state. Parent-child relations break down because normal, well-meaning parents do not know how to manage their own behaviors in order to get the positive learning, reactions, and adjustments they want in their children. Marriages fail because even spouses who are willing and eager to work to perfect their relationship have too little understanding of the complex processes involved to manage them successfully.
Tensions, anxieties, fears, inadequacies of emotional self-control, self-defeating behavior patterns and habits all operate to reduce personal life satisfaction. In the Life Development Center, they are approached on the assumption that with guidance and understanding of the processes involved, a person can plan a new pattern of reactions, take steps to learn it, and achieve an enriched life adjustment.
In summary, the Life Development Center rests on the belief that the behavioral sciences can and must produce the knowledge and techniques that will enable people to be deliberate in planning and building their satisfaction and happiness.
The Center's professional orientation is pragmatic. Rather than adhere to a single "school" or approach, we design programs to get results. Behavioral sciences knowledge and techniques are drawn from any area that offers something useful, that is, something that will enable the client to improve his self-awareness, self-understanding, self-control skills and self-management, and his management of his interpersonal and social effects.
We assume that many people need and want to restructure their behavior patterns, attitudes and emotions, and to grow as individuals. We also recognize that they may have had little opportunity to develop the skills necessary for making these changes. The Life Development Center provides a variety of programs designed to assist people in bringing about the changes that can lead to a more constructive and rewarding life.
